Understanding ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common conditions among children. While children without the condition can certainly be fidgety and restless at times, ADHD/ADD is diagnosed when these symptoms occur frequently and to a degree that they interfere with the child’s functioning or behavior at home and in school.

Inattention can include a variety of symptoms including, but not limited to:

  • Easily distracted
  • Forgetful
  • Trouble with organization
  • Hyperactivity and impulsivity can include a variety of symptoms as well, but are not limited to:
  • Always on the go
  • Squirming in their seat or fidgety
  • Difficulty waiting for their turn

Diagnosing and Treating ADD/ADHD

Treatment for ADHD can include a combination of medications and psychotherapy. You and your online psychiatric clinician and therapist can help determine the severity of your disorder and what type of treatment is needed.

Typically, the medications used for treatment will be a stimulant, an antidepressant or a blood pressure medicine for kids or adults with ADHD to help with all of their symptoms.

During an online video session on Psychiatry.Live, the psychiatric provider will ask you a series of targeted question about your symptoms, your medical history and your family history. They may ask you to fill out a questionnaire or give you medical tests to help uncover any underlying condition that may be causing your symptoms like nutrient deficiencies, thyroid problems or hormone imbalance..

Once a diagnosis has been made, your clinician will develop a treatment plan that will help transform the quality of your life.

Our clinicians take a holistic approach to the treatment plan that may include talk therapy, sleep management, nutrition, exercise alongside prescribed medication
